It works by using a special kind of polymer that cures immediately on contact with light. When you squeeze the  ink out of the pen, it hardens and forms small sculptures. The company that made the pen has developed inks that change color depending on their temperature, and it's looking into edible ink, in response to customer requests. In my opinion, the pen is a cool invention that can become very useful someday.
