Why the Pixel Couldn't Prosper

Why the Pixel couldn’t Prosper

The situation couldn’t seem more ideal, Samsung’s phones exploded, and the IPhone 7 wasn’t “revolutionary” like they said it was. The reviews for the Pixel, Google’s new smartphone, were superb. So why wasn’t it a complete success. While we don’t have exact statistics on the number of units sold, estimates say google sold 552,000 Pixels by the end of 2016. Compare that to Apple’s 78 million IPhone in the span of a few months in late September to December. Samsung pulled off 2.5 million sales of their Galaxy Note 7s form their release in mid-August until they were discontinued in October.
And so begs the question, “Why didn’t the Pixel do as well?” It was well made, it’s own smart voice system (think Siri), and an unchanged version of Android. It even invested $3.2 million into advertising. The answer, is that they are having problems with supply Google’s only carrier for the phone is Verizon, and even though you can buy it direct from Google and change the carrier, not many buyers think about that choice. Just as big however, is the fact Google’s stores are having trouble with the stock of phones. Google is having their own problems getting parts for the phone. Of course Pixel could become more popular eventually, and Android has said that a new Pixel will be released this year. But for now, the Pixel will have to settle their problems and get working.\
